Challenge Background:

A company is satisfied with Oracle on LinuxONE, but they are worried about whether their application server Tomcat could run on LinuxONE as normal. Next, we will experience to simply run Tomcat on LinuxONE to verify its compatibility on LinuxONE.

Start Your Challenge

Challenge Goal:

Install Tomcat and access the welcome page of Tomcat to verify that Tomcat is installed successfully.
Note: the logon account is root/linuxone.
The Tomcat installation package is located at /opt/apache-tomcat-8.5.34.tar.gz.

Challenge Rules:

1. Once the challenge starts, the system will start timing for 30min.
2. Click the "Submit Results" button on the upper left corner after the challenge task is completed.
3. The system evaluates your performance automatically and gives your challenge results and score.
4. Your score is ranked according to your time taken to challenge. The shorter your time is, the higher your rank is.

Enter user name root and password linuxone. Enter the desktop.
Right-click on the desktop and select Open Terminal
Execute command:
uname -m
Confirm that the hardware platform is s390x (IBMLinuxONE server).
Execute command:
cat /etc/os-release
Validate the version of the operating system
Execute command:
java -version
Confirm the installed version of Java
Deploy Tomcat(Duration: 5 mins)
Execute command:
# cd /opt
# tar xzvf apache-tomcat-8.5.34.tar.gz
Unzip the installation package of Tomcat.
# export TOMCAT_HOME=/opt/apache-tomcat-8.5.34
Declare environment variables.
Deployment of Tomcat is essentially completed.
Test Tomcat(Duration: 5 mins)
Execute command:
# /opt/apache-tomcat-8.5.34/bin/startup.sh
Start Tomcat
Click Applications in the lower left corner of the desktop, and click Firefox to start Firefox.
Enter the following address in the address field: localhost:8080
If Firefox shows the welcome page for Tomcat, Tomcat deployment is successful.
